Consumer Product Safety Commission

I don’t know how I missed it but my son’s crib was recalled a month a go. Mommy guilt aside, all yesterday was spent confirming that Babies R Us would refund the purchase of a new crib once the manufacturer’s voucher arrives , finding a crib we want and belly aching over what to do in the meantime.

The new crib was bought last night, don’t get me started about the fact that the only crib that fits our needs and was available in the next few weeks was $100 less than our voucher will be for. I hope Babies R Us doesn’t spent all that extra cash in one place, hopefully they save it for a rainy day. It’s now staring me down from the front hall daring me to put it together while my husband is at work. I put the other one together by myself 8 months pregnant so why not now?

So no art today between a crib needing to be put together and my cranky sleep deprived son who enjoyed his Pack n’ Play so much he slept in it for all of 5 hours ( Did you know it gets light out at 4:40am ? I do now. ) . I hope this link has no bad news for you but knowledge is power ( as frustrating as it may end up being) a fun new post will be up tomorrow morning !

I reposted a fun space painting activity below, check it out!

Right there with you! I didn’t know that my 9-month-old daughter’s Jardine crib was recalled until she broke one of the slats pulling herself into a standing position. Thankfully she wasn’t hurt. I contacted Jardine, and was told they have NO product registration policy to notify individual customers in the event of a recall.

The good news is that Congress is poised to pass legislation in the coming days that would require these cards for juvenile products (like cribs), so that manufacturers can contact you if the product is recalled.

We need better product standards, but this is a start — it’s certainly better than anxiously watching the news every night, wondering what the next recall will be!

  • Allison:

    So well put!

I am happy to hear your daughter was fine and not hurt.

  • *Jess*:

Add me to the list! Allison, I have a question…when you called BRU, they didn’t tell you that you had to have the voucher first to get the new crib? I received my “recall kit” from Jardine and they literally have you dismantle the crib and send in all of the bolts before they send the voucher. Turnaround time is 2 weeks, so here we are wondering what we will do for 2 weeks with no crib.
It sounds like you found a way around this so I am hoping I can follow your lead!
    Thanks a million!!

  • Allison:

    Jess,

I bought the crib first BRU said that they will refund the money once we get the voucher.

My son is sleeping ( well 5 hours is barely sleeping) in his Pack N’Play in the meantime.

We won’t see the voucher for ages.

    It’s insanity!

  • *jess*:

Excellent – that’s what we will do, as well. Insanity is almost an understatement! DO NOT trying calling Jardine–they almost jumped through the phone and bit my head off when I tried to get more information.

    Thank you for the information!

  • Allison:

Not a problem, I am so sorry you have had to deal with this as well.

On a side note my son is napping in his new crib- which doesn’t match his room at all.

We are hitting Home Depot for some paint asap!
