I blame Trader Joe’s for this post. They had these alphabet cookies displayed right at my daughter’s eye level so of course they made it into our basket… and I immediately imagined all the fun we could have! I made these printable sheets for everyone to use because not only are they fun for these cookies they will work with plastic or magnetic letters too. If you are better at saying no to cookies while shopping you can still use these rad FREE printables.
You will need some letters like these cookies and to print the printables out :

Activities
I made 3 different alphabet cookies printables to give you a choice not to make my kids do all there. This is a great afterschool snack and activity on days when your school-age kids don’t have homework but please remember school is intense these days after homework most kids just need to chill and read, always read. On days when there is no homework short fun activities like these that engage but aren’t too challenging are good options. So choose one and get the milk and cookies ready. I only gave them a handful of cookies each.
My daughter is all about letter sounds right now and she loved matching them up. And yes they did eat a few alphabet cookies too!
My son opted for the spelling… see that smile? He was going to spell something naughty with his alphabet cookies, but a quick teacher look from mom fixed that.
I did the matching sheet – just do match the matches you do find and spell a word with the handful of cookies served, no need to dig through the bucket to match every one up.
Alphabet Books
ABC A Family Alphabet Book by Bobbie Combs is a great alphabet book that doesn’t aim to explain same-sex families it just includes them. I love that it’s not out to explain because the families in this book are just being families. The book goes through all different things families do together and there is a big mix of same-sex parents, single parents, and bi-racial families all doing their thing…being together!
Kate Schatz The only thing that this book is missing is a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th volume. I love this book and not just because it has rad in the title. This book is a collection of true groundbreakers, women who were forced to be brave because they chose to follow their dreams in a world that wasn’t ready for them to, to stand up for others and to force change when it would have been easier to just go with the flow. There are 25 amazing American women featured and a shout out to the nameless women who make brave choices every single day.
The Sleepy Little Alphabet: A Bedtime Story from Alphabet Town by Judy Sierra is a great alphabet book. I couldn’t help myself, I read it to my son to the tune of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. It is clearly its own book, though. The alphabet is getting ready for bed and just like your little ones, these lowercase letters are pulling out all their tricks and antics to avoid bedtime. Well almost all of them, z is more than happy to go to bed! It’s a sweet book that your kids can relate to and I like that it focuses on lowercase letters.

I can only print the lower case abc’s. When I click on lower and upper only lower case pops up.
This will be a super fun activity!

The cookies are uppercase so the mat itself is only lowercase. I hope that makes sense, sorry it wasn’t clear!

Did you make a sheet for upper case letters? I clicked on the link for upper and lower case letters, but there was only a sheet for lower case. This would be so much fun for PreK kiddos!
Allison McDonald says
No – the printable has the lowercase because the cookies are uppercase. It’s meant to have the children match up the upper to lowercase.
