We are huge unicorn fans, in fact, my daughter did her kindergarten science fair project all about unicorns! We shared it on Instagram. Unicorns are magical and graceful, what’s not to love? This book list was a pleasure to put together. I hope you like these books about unicorns as much as we do.

Lily The Unicorn by Dallas Clayton is a book all about a unicorn named Lily who embraces life and all it offers. She is odd in the most wonderfully interesting ways. When she meets Roger, a penguin who is odd for much more boring reasons they strike up a great friendship. Lily is accepting and open, and the story shows readers that the key to friendship is to accept people for who they are, especially if they are nothing like you.
Claire and The Unicorn Happy Ever After by B. G. Hennessey is magical. Claire is trying to find out what makes people happy ever after and one night in a dream her stuffed unicorn Capricorn, and Claire goes looking for the answer. There are multiple pages in this book I would love to jump into and just experience. My five-year-old and I would read the page and then just look at the details of the illustrations and imagine ourselves in this fantastic world inside the book. The story is sweet with Claire’s dream world crossing over into her real world.
Nobody Rides The Unicorn by Adrian Mitchell is a book about being brave, standing up for what is right, and finding your place in the world. My daughter is almost 6, and she loved it, but I think it may scare younger or more sensitive children. There is a mean king who wants to capture the unicorn, and then uses a young girl as bait. She is the hero of the story and in the end, she rides off on the back of the magical beast. It wasn’t my favorite book, but like I said my daughter enjoyed it.
Uni The Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal is a wonderful book. Uni is a unicorn who believes in her heart that girls are real, but all the other unicorns think she is silly for believing. This story switches the normal point of view around and makes readers think about what it means to believe in something. The illustrations are lovely, and you will want to read the book a second time as soon as you reach the end.
Unicorn Thinks He’s Pretty Great by Bob Shea is hilarious. I love Bob Shea books and always seem to read them in a gravelly New York accent. Goat is jealous of Unicorn and complaining about “how wonderful” he is to the readers. But as it turns out Unicorn is kinda envious of goat too. Their friendship forms once they realize this. It’s a fun read with a great message!

Another to consider for unicorn fans is “Thelma the Unicorn” by Australian author Aaron Blabey. It has an endearing message about being yourself.
