<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-344" title="Carrot Bag" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3681.jpg?w=200" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></p>
<p>This is not a craft you can do with your child. This is a naptime craft or something you can do with a much older child. This craft is for the little kids, not with them. This idea was inspired by this bag of candy. Too cute!</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-345" title="Carrot Jelly Beans" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3683-e1303005631353.jpg?w=200" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></p>
<p>I used a piece of orange felt, green felt, green bias tape (you can use yarn or any green string), a hot glue gun, and scissors. I suggest using felt. I originally tried this with orange quilter&#8217;s cotton and it was way too thin to hot glue. If you want to sew you can use the cotton, but this is a no-sew version that anyone can do. Literally anyone.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-337" title="Carrot Bag Supplies" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3672.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="250" /></p>
<p>I folded the orange felt piece and trimmed the outer edge to make a triangle.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-338" title="Triangle" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3674.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="298" /></p>
<p>I hot glued the open side together to make a cone.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-340" title="Glued Cone" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3676.jpg?w=200" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></p>
<p>Then I cut the green felt in half, long ways.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-339" title="Cut Green Felt" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3675.jpg?w=200" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></p>
<p>Next I glued the green felt piece to the orange cone. I just glued about an inch at a time and rotated my way around the entire edge of the cone.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-341" title="Green Glued to Orange" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3677.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="293" /></p>
<p>After that I cut strips into the green section. Be sure not to go all the way down to where it connects with the orange.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-342" title="Carrot Greens" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3678.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></p>
<p>I cut some holes (more like diamond shaped snips) into the cloth with scissors and threaded the biased tape through the holes. This way it will be easier to re-thread when your child pulls the string out. Which we all know is going to happen.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-343" title="String Threaded" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3680.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></p>
<p>Fill your cone with candy, trail mix, craft supplies, or whatever goodies you choose. Tie the string together. Ta-da!</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-344" title="Carrot Bag" src="http://mynoviceshots.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/img_3681.jpg?w=200" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></p>
<p>After Easter it can still be used to hold small treasures. You can make your carrot any size you wish. I am seriously considering adding a long green strap to my daughter&#8217;s to make it a carrot bag purse.</p>

We were going to use a white crayon to make our initials on the egg and then paint. Totally didn&#8217;t work.<a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_0032.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-9001" title="Van Gogh Easter Eggs" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_0032-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="180" height="240" /></a> The painted wood eggs we got simply were too smooth for the crayon wax to stick well, I should have grabbed the unfinished ones. So we&#8217;ll try that again next year, instead this post evolved from our failure.  As I told my son to just paint them however he wanted he said &#8221; Look I am making swirls like Van Gogh!&#8221;  So we grabbed one of the few art books that is not already in storage while we sell the house and looked at some of his art. After talking about the colors and how &#8221; Gloppy&#8221; <a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_0033.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-9002" title="Van Gogh Easter Eggs" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_0033-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="210" height="158" /></a>his paint was on the canvas we added more paint to the eggs and made a few more swirls.  This was so much fun to do and you could easily adapt it to various artists. Paint small dots for George Seurat, splatter paint them for Jackson Pollack,  do large color blocks for Mark Rothko or even cut some collage paper and modge podge it on for Matisse!  The variations are endless. I think I am going to make this a Easter tradition grabbing a few eggs every year and choosing an artist to use as inspiration. After a few years we will have our own collection of masterpiece eggs.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">For this project we used pre painted white wood eggs from Micheal&#8217;s , acrylic paint and paint brushes. Ignore the crayons that was a big old flop!<a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_0036.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-9004 aligncenter" title="Easter Egg" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_0036-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="240" height="180" /></a></p>

<p style="text-align: center;">I love Easter crafts and we usually make a ton for weeks before the holiday but this is our first Easter activity this year.  We were both so excited with how easy it was to make and how beautiful it turned out to be .  All week I will have even more Easter egg crafts over on <a href="http://blogs.familyeducation.com/parenting">FamilyEducation.com</a> .</p>
<ol>
<li>Gather your materials. You will need a canvas ( the tape pulls off it like a dream! ), a roller sponge brush, painters tape, scissors, a plate, and paint. <a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1781.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8942" title="Easter Egg Craft For Kids" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1781.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></li>
<li>Start by making a frame in tape. Press hard.<a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1782.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8943" title="Easter Egg Craft For Kids" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1782-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></li>
<li>Now make the outline of the egg.  I did these steps, elementary aged kids should be encouraged to try though. <a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1783.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8944" title="Easter Craft For Kids " src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1783-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></li>
<li>Invite your child to come add the flair! Rip small pieces of painters tape and press them onto the canvas inside the egg.<a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1786.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8945" title="Easter Craft For Kids" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1786-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>The ripping is fun and great for fine motor skills.</li>
<li>When they have added all the tape pour some paint on the plate and roll!<a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1788.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8946" title="Easter Craft for Kids" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1788-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>Add new colors as the mood strikes!</li>
<li>Get the edges too.<a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1790.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8947" title="Easter Craft For Kids" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1790-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>Set aside to dry. <a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1791.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8948" title="Easter Egg Craft " src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_1791-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>When dry pull the tape off. <a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_18121.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8952" title="Easter Egg" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_18121-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></a></li>

I love her What is Christmas book and vaguely remember liking this the first time I read it ( and gave it a good but not detailed review) so I grabbed this for my daughter&#8217;s Easter basket before re reading it.  Ooops. Live and learn sometimes authors you love make books you won&#8217;t. This book  takes a Christian viewpoint vs the many secular Easter books focusing on egg hunts and the Easter bunny. The book explains the facts about Easter and how it&#8217;s the celebration of Jesus&#8217;s death and resurrection . It starts out noting all the secular aspects of the holiday and how they are fun but are not the real reason you celebrate. Where it lost my son and I was when it said that Jesus was crucified on a tree. You don&#8217;t have to be Christian for that to make you say WHAT? My son interrupted my reading and said &#8221; You are tricking, No he died on a cross!&#8221; ( glad he listens in church!) So discussed I it on twitter and while the poetry of it is apparent as a mom and former Sunday School teacher let&#8217;s give the kids the basics and then branch out into discussions about interpretations etc&#8230; later. If you have this book I&#8217;d love to hear your take. * Interestingly as I said  I reviewed this book years ago and gave it a positive review and didn&#8217;t mention the tree, nor do I remember it being an issue. My only explanation is I read it as poetic language and as an adult it didn&#8217;t phase me, and as a toddler my son didn&#8217;t stop me reading it like he did today at 4.<br />
<a href="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/ollies-easter-eggs-.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8921" title="ollies-easter-eggs-" src="http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/ollies-easter-eggs-.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" /></a></p>

Cute addition to this popular series.</p>

If you aren&#8217;t familiar with the &#8221; Where are  Baby&#8217;s &#8230;&#8221; series of life the flap books, they are simple books where the reader searches for an item finding other things first before finally finding the title object, in this case Easter eggs. My daughter loves these books and plays with them even when we aren&#8217;t reading them together. I love the bright illustrations and the simple holiday theme.</p>

Pingry was the text I was expecting and hoping What is Easter would have. I am just glad it will be added to our family library soon.  This book does a fantastic job at explaining the holiday of Easter, it&#8217;s origins and traditions on the level of kids still young enough to read a board book.  It doesn&#8217;t hurt that the church in it looks identical to ours and my son was so excited that our church was in the book! I also appreciated the diversity in the illustrations .</p>
