The Spotlight is on…

This blog has not been around long, but it has made a big splash! If you love books as much as we do you have to click on the banner above! I like that the baby’s reaction to books are often included as well as from a parent’s perspective. Don’t expect all the reviews to be fantastic either, they give honest opinions so sometimes there are “Parent Peeves” when something in the book isn’t quite right. I also particularly love that each book is linked to Amazon so you can find it for your home library immediately .

I have spotlighted some of the awesome and always too cute for words crafts that Jennifer over at Ramblings of a Crazy Woman does with her kids before. But it is time to share her whole blog with you! Summer is right around the corner and you are going to need as many ideas as possible. I have joked with Jennifer that we must drink the same coffee because I can’t tell you how many times I have thought of a craft only to find she’d posted the same thing a few days earlier! I always love what she does for holidays so make sure you check her out for good Father’s Day ideas, I bet she will have a bunch!

Sunday Spotlight – My Favorite !

The Very Hungry Caterpillar. by Eric Carle

When I sat down to think which book is my absolute favorite, the one that kept coming back into my mind was this classic. As a child the holes the caterpillar made in the pages fascinated me, the colors enchanted me and I remembering being amazed that the caterpillar turned into that huge colorful butterfly! In university while studying elementary education I chose this book as the literary inspiration for a cross curricular unit study for grade 1. I made math lessons with fruit, science lessons about observing insects and the butterfly life cycle and health lessons about smart food choices. Then teaching preschool I used this awesome book to teach the days of the week, basic counting and more. When I was pregnant I chose this book along with a few other favorites to be my son’s nursery theme. Now that my son is 2 we often pull down the Very Hungry Caterpillar felt board and play with it as we read the story. To me this book is a given, and for every stage of my life, student, student teacher, teacher, mother it has come along for the ride!

If you are an Eric Carle Fan ( and you should be!) you must check out his personal blog. It’s always fascinating to have a insider look at someone you admire!

When I sat down and looked at my blog roll like I do every Saturday I wasn’t sure who I was going to spotlight this week. I have so many great blogs to choose from. Then I scrolled down and saw Feels Like Home and my mind was made up.

What I enjoy so much about this blog is that there is no pretense, the homespun advice comes from the heart. The recipes are tested and aren’t always perfect and it doesn’t hurt that she can really write. There is all sorts of advice for the home, from raising kids to making the perfect pierogies. It’s a pleasure to read, and you will leave hungry for more , trust me !

I am so happy I can share this site with my readers. I was going to wait until Father’s Day but I just couldn’t wait until June to share them with you. Book Dads searches out positive representations of fatherhood in children’s books and does a great job reviewing what they find. I particularly appreciate the sections on family diversity and the section on divorce and separation. They have created a great resource for all families not just dads.
