Now that my son is in full day kindergarten the amount of focused educational activities we do together has obviously dropped dramatically. He is tired after school but he gets home early in the afternoon and I don’t want him to just turn into a big couch potato until dinner. That is where great interactive toys come in . What I love ( and have loved for ages) about LeapFrog products is that kids feel like they are just playing while parents know that they are learning.
I set up the Tag Human Body Pack and the Tag Get Ready For Kindergarten out so that when he got home it was ready. Usually he stops for a snack but he dove right into learning. The Human body pack is so much fun. What kid doesn’t want to learn about what really goes on in their body? What I love about this is that he can learn about the digestive system and then pop over to the heart and lungs or over to bones. He’s spent all day at school and I don’t want to force him to learn anything right now, but I want him to feed his curiosity and this lets him do that! He can play a little or dive in and play a lot. There is also a game for one or two players, but as much as my son loves games he wasn’t interested all he wanted to do was use the Tag reader to click on all the body parts and learn.
The Tag Get Ready For Kindergarten book is really pages of games disguised as a book. I don’t know about you but my son loves video games , much to his dismay we don’t own a game system so his game time is very limited. When I told him this book was filled with games he jumped at the chance to play. Here’s the thing the games are all really well done and really educational. The skills they work on are all skills that your child will be working on in kindergarten but it doesn’t feel like skill work, it feels like play. Now this next bit of the review is where I put on my teacher hat get ready…. the hands down best part about this book is that the different games range in ability. Now you might think this one game was too easy, and this other was too hard. Is this right? Yes it’s perfect. Kids need to feel like they are successful and brilliant and that something is super easy but only if it’s paired with a challenge. That way they are prepared for the more challenging task without simply getting frustrated and are more likely to reach higher and higher goals. Love it!I was selected for this opportunity as a compensated member of Clever Girls Collective and received free product from LeapFrog to review.
