Have you seen the LeapFrog maps? You would love them. They aren't branded with any characters either. They are our favorites. Ours is so old and battered but we still grab it to play all the time.

when i taught first grade, we had a set of the (original?) book sets where leap frog reads to them or read out loud, etc. we also had a couple of math and science titles that was more like the "games" you mentioned.

i LOVED it and declared if i ever had a kid, i would so jump on the leapfrog brand.

i haven't.... although littlegirl does have the leaptop computer which i really think is great.
but all the tag readers and book sets are all "marketed" which drives me crazy. maybe when she gets into school age, that will be less and less.

until then, though, i don't want to buy products with disney (etc) on them. especially b/c her knowledge of characters are quite limited. and they never seem to make the characters she does like.

i can't wait to look into these sets you shared! thanks for all of your many great (and useful!!) ideas. love this site and wish i found it 3 years ago!
