My favorite teacher is my mom. She is my hero. She is a nurse by trade, but when my dad passed away and my brother and I were little, she retired from nursing and went into teaching. It was so she could spend more time with us. I personally feel she was busier as a teacher than nurse though. She taught medical courses at the local high school. She taught her students and me about the value of a good education. She taught us gratitude. She taught us giving back to those fortunate. I saw her by shoes for a student who could afford them but needed tennis shoes to be in the class. She provided immediate care to many of her students in medical emergencies. She did so many amazing things as a teacher while being a single mother. She is an amazing teacher and I will forever be blessed and humbled to call her mom. #QuakerUp #SweepsEntry

My 8th grade English teacher brought out my passion for writing and I am thankful to her for that. In 8th grade we had a period where we got to choose electives and I was going to choose something 'easy' that would take little to no effort like computers and be with my friends but my English teacher suggested I take her creative writing elective class instead. I was hesitant because I really didn't want the extra work nor did I enjoy writing that much but she really pushed me to sign up and to try it since she thought I had a talent for writing given my essays/assignments in her class. I took her advice and am thankful I did. That class helped me realize my passion for writing and storytelling which I still have to this day.

My favorite teacher was my 4th Grade teacher, Mrs. Higgins. She taught me it was perfectly fine to be myself, even if other kids thought I was a nerd. She let me do extra projects, she never spoke down to me, she always let me read what I wanted after I finished my assignments. She was awesome! #QuakerUp #SweepsEntry
