Getting your child to be engaged and keeping them from zoning out on screens from the time the school bus drops them off until bedtime can be tough some days, especially on bad weather days. They are tired, they have had a long day at school, they want to do something fun. That is why subscription boxes rock. But it’s not the only reason they rock, what ended up being even better was that the ready to go activity made it so simple for us to hang out and make something together. Connecting with your kids is so important and this is just one more tool I have for that now.

I have shared how much I adore Little Passports multiple times here and on Instagram, and I have a post all about my favorite subscription boxes for kids, but NOW I have a new favorite. Surprise Ride rocks! Like the other boxes it comes with a theme, ours was space. The items it came with were awesome, and my 7-year-old liked them, some subscription boxes leave you thinking that you could have put it together at the dollar store, not Surprise Ride.
The big activity in our box was making a Glow In The Dark Moon, but there were tons of other fun things too like a hackie sack, coloring pages, and a nonfiction book!
They had everything we needed for the project right in the box, even an apron to protect her clothes and a snack to eat while the plaster dried! But not just any snack a snack that astronauts eat!
First, we read the instructions.
Next, it was time to blow up the balloon ( there is extra in case yours pops… seriously they thought of everything!)
She loved the plaster. I loved how carefully she cut, wet it, and made the “cast” for her balloon.
I loved that there was just enough to make this moon because I don’t know if your house has as many craft supplies in it but I really don’t need any extra leftovers.
The real power of this subscription box is it turns a topic like space into a GIFT to open and explore. It’s genius. We found a great podcast about the moon to listen to while the moon was glowing and drying on her self where it now lives.
