Did you see my Facebook Live making slime? I decided to go live to really show you how easy it is and how recipes are helpful but it is all about how the slime or in this case floam feels! If you are wondering why I’m calling this slime floam, it is because I added tiny styrofoam balls to the slime to change the texture.
It is awesome!
Here is the video or scroll for the full picture tutorial. Please note in the video I say it is about one tablespoon of Sta-Flo per glue bottle, and I was wrong, I forgot I added a 2nd helping of it. So it is closer to 2 tablespoons per bottle of glue.
Gather your materials. You will need a glass bowl, a spoon, some white glue, mini styrofoam balls, Sta-flo liquid laundry starch, and a tray or cutting board to knead it on.
Start by emptying two bottles of glue into your glass bowl.
Add the tiny styrofoam balls.
And stir well.
Time for the Sta-flo. Add about 2 tablespoons and stir, if it doesn’t look slimy yet, then add a little more.
Next, dump the floam onto a tray or cutting board and then knead.
I added in some snowflake erasers for my daughter to pick out because she LOVES to do that but the floam is fun with or without anything extra.
As soon as she came in the door, she was into it!
Picking out the erasers.
Stretching it and decompressing from her day!
Need some snow themed books to read after squishing and squashing the snow floam? Here are some great choices!

Do you think this would work with something like rice instead of tiny Styrofoam? The Styrofoam is horrid to dispose of, and I have no idea where you’d purchase it.
Allison McDonald says
The balls are easy to find ( dollar and craft stores have them in stock right now) but I totally respect the issue of disposal and that they are not super kind to the environment. Rice would dry the glue out, hmm… maybe tapioca pearls? They might not dry it out as much. Either way you’d have to add more liquid.

How long will the snow floam last?
Allison McDonald says
Months for sure!

Because glue comes in several different sizes, would you mind stating what size bottle they are. Thank you.

What if it is too sticky and wet? We tried this in my classroom and never could get it to the right consistency.

Just made this today. My 4yo son is loving it. Perfect day for rainy day in a pandemic. He added mini dinosaurs to it.
It was a bit of trial and error with the quantities of I gradients. But eventually we got the right consistency.

So glad I “bumped into” your post!
I was searching for a fun INSIDE snow activity to do with my
Pre-K After Care bunch and this tactile STEM “floam” is perfect!
BTW, you were as darling to watch as the activity will be fun!
Keep sharing your ideas and THANK YOU!
