Lunch Break Learning at home preschool activity plans are for working parents and busy families who need easy to follow but meaningful daily activities. These plans are for parents, but they are also for teachers to send to students. If you are a preschool teacher, feel free to use these ideas in your own remote learning plans for your students. Remind parents to be gentle with their children and themselves and focus on connection. These plans are named Lunch Break Learning because the activities can be done during parents/ caregiver lunch breaks while working from home, but you can do them at night, early morning, or any time between zoom meetings too. Whether you are a parent or a teacher, use these at home preschool activity plans in whatever way works best for you!

- Read through the activity details. Take note of the “Make it harder/ make it easier” tips.
- Prep the activities either the night before or one big prep Sunday night. This won’t take long.
- Tell yourself you can do this. It’s going to be OK if you skip a day, no biggie!

Check out all the details for the preschool lesson plan for this week below.
Alphabet Scavenger Hunt
Go on an adventure together, looking for things that start with each letter of the alphabet! You can write the alphabet own on a piece of scrap paper and check each letter off as you find things. A – apple, B – bed, C – cat, D – door… keep going!
Make it easier -> Search only for the letters in your child’s name.
Make it harder -> Ditch the alphabet and use sight words. Find a list of sight words here. Write them on small pieces of paper and say the word, have your child find the word ( hidden or just scattered on a table.
Count Around The House
Get moving with this fun math game. You’ll need a piece of paper and a pencil. Write down common things you have in your house – windows, TVs, doors, bathrooms, chairs, beds. Then go around your home and count them. Write the number down on the paper. If you want, you can make it fancier like the image above, but there is no need.
Make it easier -> Keep the list short and only include items that can be counted easily like doors or couches.
Make it harder –> Go big, have your child count the spoons in the kitchen, books in their room, or socks in the laundry!
Laundry Basket Toss
Gross motor development is essential, but it doesn’t have to be complicated to be fun. Grab a laundry basket or two, some socks or soft balls, and play target toss.
Make it easier -> Use a large laundry basket.
Make it harder -> Every time you get the socks in, move the basket further away.
Rhyming Basket
Rhyming is my favorite way to play with words and sounds. This skill is crucial because it helps children learn how to break the sounds in words apart, which is vital for literacy development. They don’t know that’s what they are doing at first and we don’t have to explain that, just play. For this activity, gather different toys you might have that rhyme ( plastic mug, plastic bug, car, star) if you don’t have any on hand you can use these rhyming cards. Just cut out the rhyming images and pop them all in a basket. Invite your kiddo to match them up.
Make it easier -> Show your child each rhyming pair first, then mix them up and do it a second time together.
Make it harder -> After you find the rhyming pair, try to think of more words that rhyme with them; star, car, jar, far …
Scissor Skills
Grab your scissors and work on mastering this skill, for our youngest learners use play dough. Roll it into little snakes and cut it into pieces. For older children, try following lines on paper or making a simple craft like this lion or set up a cutting station!
Make it easier –> playdough and plastic scissors.
Make it harder –> sharper scissors and paper.
Big Project Ideas for the Weekend
Working parents may have more time during the weekend. Here are some longer projects you might like to try.
Play in the sprinkler
Draw with sidewalk chalk
Paint rocks
Craft something fun with my live videos.
Bed Time Reading Tips
Every week I include different ways to make your bedtime reading more focused on different skills, no matter what books you are using. This week after reading, ask your child if they could give the book a new title, what would they title the book?
