Fall Fine Motor Activities For Preschoolers

Fine motor skills are vital for everything from holding a fork to twisting a doorknob to zipping up jeans! Fine motor skills aren’t just about getting ready for handwriting. In fact, fine motor skills have been linked to language development, as well as being related to reading and math skills! You can learn more about this in my virtual fine motor workshop! In my PreK class, we incorporate fine motor activities into every free-choice setup and many group lessons each week. Here are some of the great fine motor activities we are using this fall, with fun fall themes to keep preschoolers engaged and working on these vital skills.

Fall Fine Motor Activities For PreK & Preschool

Cutting Practice Apples – scissors are an excellent tool for building hand strength and coordination.
Apple Roll and Cover Game, these math games that help preschoolers learn 1:1 correspondence, are also great for hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills development.
Fall Nature Prints with Playdough. This is a fun activity any season!
Q-tip Print Pumpkin
Apple Tree Letter Match, peeling stickers and post-it notes off surfaces, is a great fine motor activity!

Pumpkin Writing Tray You don’t have to use pencils to write, and it’s still a beneficial fine motor skills activity!
Torn Paper Acorn – work those fine motor skills and hand muscles with this fall craft.
Fall Unifix Cube Measurement Cards – unifix cubes are tricky to take apart and stick together which makes this a great fine motor activity.
Hot Glue Leaf Art. This is a fall activity favorite. I do this fall art project for preschool during free choice, and some of my students go home with practically a pile of beautiful leaves. Oh, and yeah, it’s great for fine motor development too!

Exploring A Sunflower: Fine motor work that is practical and fun. Use your fingers or tweezers; both deliver significant fine motor skill development while exploring nature inside your class.
Pounding Pumpkins – build critical hand-eye coordination, which is vital for fine motor skills, with playful activities like this.
Fall Leaf Letter Match with Clothespins work on letter recognition and fine motor skills!
Sticker stations are easy and perfect for free choice time!
