halloween craftThis was a total spur of the moment Halloween craft . I had the masking tape out on the table and my daughter was playing with it while I was rummaging through the art closet trying to get inspired. I turned around to ask her not to waste it and inspiration struck! We’ve made a ton of Halloween crafts for kids but this is our first mummy craft. You could totally use lighter paper and dark tape to make a ninja too.

Gather your materials. You will need some black paper, masking tape, a white crayon, scissors, glue, and googly eyes. crafts for kids

Start by drawing the outline of a body. simple halloween mummy craft

Cut or rip strips of tape off the roll and stick to the edge of the table. I didn’t get a good picture of this set up because my daughter was a speed demon with putting the tape on. Older kids should be encouraged to cut their own tape. easy mummy craft for three year olds

Add the tape to the outline. If your child takes more than the 12 seconds my daughter did with this step you can talk about the different lengths of tape or dive into what mummies really are. I didn’t get into that with my 3 year old but if she was a little older I think it would have fascinated her. masking tape mummy craft for kids

When they are sure that they have added all the tape they want to add cut it out. Easy mummy craft for preschool

We had great fun with this one–we used white card stock and had the kids color to their hearts’ content prior to taping, and we also put the googly eyes on before the tape so it looked like the mummy was peeking out from inside the wrapping. Great stuff, thank you!

[…] 8.  Mummy Craft  My goal was a craft that the 2 year olds could master that didn’t involve paint or any other messy mediums that might stain costumes.  These construction paper mummies are adorned with masking tape, white crepe paper streamers, and neon googly eyes.  You could cut along the mummy outline after the glue dries, but we just left ours as-is. I loved how a couple of the kids really got into gluing on as many eyes as they could. Original inspiration found here. […]

  2. […] This craft was meant for the smallest of hands. Create this spooky Halloween mummy from No Time For Flashcards. All it takes is construction paper, scissors, glue, tape, a crayon, and a pair of google eyes (I would imagine you could make your own eyes out of construction paper or buttons as well). If you have youngsters, this is the craft for them. See how to make it here: http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/2013/10/mummy-halloween-craft-kids.html. […]
