Adult directed crafts are fun but really should not be the bulk of the creative learning your child does. Young children should be exposed to copious amounts of free play, exploration and discovery. Besides the park, playdates and jungle gyms one way we do this is to rotate toys, put some away and purposefully bring some out. Free play doesn’t mean let them run wild, it means follow their lead and allow them to make choices, and use their imaginations within some flexible structure.
Under the heading Fine and Gross Motor you will find activities that develop these physical skills .Sensory activities include everything from water play to digging in oatmeal, many pre math skills (ex measurement) are used while children explore scooping and pouring. Learning through their senses especially touch is a crucial element for early education. Pretend play is close to my heart, I found while creating sometimes simple, sometimes elaborate pretend scenarios young children can learn and teach you about so many subjects. The sky truly is the limit with these activities. Cooking Activities offer another chance to learn about following directions, measurement, healthy eating and more.

Hello there! I stumbled across your site while I was looking for fun crafts to do with the Seniors at the Facility where I am Activity Director. I absolutely love this site, so many of the activities I am able to adapt to work for seniors, and the sensory activities are especially helpful when I am planning the Calendar for my Memory Care unit, where the Residents are more low functioning. I am so happy that I came across your site, and I can tell you that I will be a regular visitor, thanks so much!
