The last really good book I read was Altar of Eden by James Rollins. I couldn’t put that book down. What made it even more interesting as I read it I realized that some of the technology utilized in the book could actually be real. When I got to the end of the book James Rollins actually spoke to that subject and showed what agencies and technology in the book was actually real or being developed. Really good book

  43. Jasmine says

    May 7, 2012 at 11:49 am

I’ve just finished reading “French Kids Eat Everything (And Your Can, Too!)” and I LOVED it! It’s totally revolutionized my thinking when it comes to when, how and why to eat. I did not grow up with a ‘food education’ from my own home. My mom worked two jobs and went to school, leaving me to sit for my younger siblings. My father worked all night. Food was an intrusion on daily life; an inconvenient necessity. As a result I never learned to eat healthy and have struggled with my weight most of my life.
But, now that I’m a mom, I want to do things differently. My girls are still under 2 years old so I am excited I still have a chance to implement the strategies I’ve learned and teach them healthy eating habits.

It is impossible to finish that book without crying. My runner up would “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Dr. Stephen Covey. I’ve read it 3 times now and every time I learn amazing new facts about myself, those around me, and the world we all interact in. Very uplifting book.

After 20+ years, I recently re-read Dave Pelzer’s book, A Child Called It. My first experience with this book was as a teenager about to graduate high school. At that time I could not comprehend how anyone could survive and live a normal adult life under such circumstances. Today, after much traveling and seeing the world as a mother of four, I know the world out there contains many secrets of humanity. These secrets are either hidden behind closed doors, never spoken of because of harsh repercussions, or some brave soul out there (just like the author) speaks up and brings to light many actions and situations that need to be addressed. Dave Pelzer does an amazing job of showing his readers how a person can overcome extreme child abuse and become one of the most inspiring people in the world. I highly recommend A Child Called It, along with Mr. Pelzer’s two other books, A Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave, which complete his inspirational trilogy.

I’m reading a fantastic book right now called “Half the Sky” by Kristoff and Wudunn. It talks about the oppression and slavery of women in developing countries, and particularly how the more oppressed a community’s women are, the more dangerous the people become. To better the world, we need to provide women with the means to remove themselves from these dire situations. Then they’ll be able to do the same for their children, educate them, not marry them off so early, etc.

I’m only in the beginning parts but I already feel like everyone needs to read this book.

The only truly great book that I have read is the Bible. Recently, I have been reading the “Miss Julia” series by Ann B. Ross. They are very funny–about a southern lady who gets into all kinds of trouble trying to do the proper thing. My granddaughter & I have been reading Dr. Seuss books–very good for beginning readers.

I just finished Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. It is a story about a WWII veteran (Louis Zamperini) his life as an olympic runner, training and service as a bomber crew, and ultimately his capture and imprisonment as a POW by the Japanese. His story is one of moral and physical courage, struggle and enlightenment. Truly one of the most exceptional and awe-inspiring heros alive from the greatest generation.

The last “GREAT” book I read, was a 3rd book to a trilogy, called,” Princess Sultana’s Circle. The book that begins the journey is called, “Princess: A true story of life behind the veil” Author Jean Sasson. It is a subject that has never intrigued me in lifetime of reading. Now I read any & everything I can about this subject. All 3 books were completely “Mind-Blowing” & I shall never forget the journey they all 3 took me on. Mrs. Sasson is truly a wonder & a hero.
