Last night I showed my daughter this video I shared on No Time For Flash Cards Facebook page to see if she wanted to turn our water table into a fairy garden. She didn’t. She suggested that we think up our own DIY and this dinosaur world is what she came up with! After we dropped her big brother off at Track Camp we bought a 50-pound bag of sand and hit the local nursery up for some real live plants. If you are doing this with young children that could potentially eat the plants double check that all parts of them are non-toxic. Â We LOVE what this project turned into, a dynamic dinosaur world with different textures and that absolutely begs to be played with. Here is how we made our water table dinosaur world.

Gather your materials. You will need a water table ( find ours here), some dinosaur figurines, glass beads, rocks, succulents, and sand.  When I rescued my water table from my side yard where it had been all winter, I flipped it over and a mouse scooted out and the largest yellow slug I have ever seen was happily living inside too. So we ended up having a little nature lesson this morning as well.
Start by pouring in your sand.
Time to add the different textures like glass beads,
rocks,
plants,
and of course the dinosaurs.Â
As we played she added mulch to be “meat” so the T-Rex and the Raptor didn’t have to eat the other dinosaurs.
PLAY!
and play some more!

This is so cute! What a fun activity for summer play with the kiddos. My little girl would much rather play with dinosaurs than fairies too – I think that means we are doing something right! 🙂
