Get Crafty with Abominable – DIY Ornament

This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Did you see Abominable in the theaters? If you didn’t you are in luck, Abominable, from the studio that brought you How To Train Your Dragon, is now out on Digital, and on Blu-ray & DVD December 17! Thanks to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, we got a chance to cozy up with the new movie this weekend and get crafty too. Before I share the craft let me tell you more about the movie. It was amazing.

I loved the topics the movie dove into from the theme of “a little positivity goes a long way,” to grief and loss, classical music, and of course Chinese culture. It would make a great holiday gift for families on your list. Plus, the new release features awesome bonus content including two original shorts!

So now that you know how rad this movie is, let me share this awesome craft that we had fun making to go with it inspired by Everest the yeti.

How To Make An Everest Ornament

Gather your materials. You will need some black and grey sticky back foam, glue, shredded white gift paper, clear plastic ornaments, blue and black felt markers, scissors, and the coloring sheet from page 10 of the Abominable Movie Night Party Kit <– click here to download, for promotional purposes only.

Start by cutting out Everest’s face and using it as a stencil for your black foam. Use it again for the grey, then trim a little off the bottom of the grey to create Everest’s mouth.

Next cut out the eyes from the page.

Color the iris blue.

Glue to his face and add two nostrils with the black felt marker.

Make some ears out of grey foam and 5 teeth and a little goatee from the white. Pop them on.

I did all of this before movie night and had it ready for the kiddos to add.

While watching fill the ornaments with the shredded paper.

Add the face, ears, and goatee.

Set aside and snuggle back up with Everest to watch the rest of this phenomenal movie.

Be sure to watch Abominable on Digital now, and pick up a copy (or two) when it releases on Blu-ray & DVD on December 17 for all your holiday gifting.

And thanks to Tea Collection for the cool tie dye t-shirt featured in this post. It’s part of their limited-edition line in partnership with Abominable. You can find this design and other items from the collaboration on their website.
