Novel ways to work on sight words is important because man oh man is it boring to just memorize words! Finding themes that invite children to participate is important. This truck activity can travel to students homes easily and it simple for parents to work with their children on sight words too. If you are a parent and wondering what is the whole deal about sight words and why is your child’s teacher so concerned about them, here is an overview of why they are important for reading.
Sight Words Truck Activity
I bought these truck magnets last year at the Dollar Tree, and I can’t find them online, but I did create a printable for you to print out, laminate, and add some magnets if you can’t get your hands on some trucks.
Gather your materials. You will need some truck magnets ( or make your own with this free printable <– click here to download), a magnetic board or cookie sheet, scissors, sharpie, and dry erase marker to erase the sight words if desired.
Write out the sight words on the trucks both the cab and the bed.
Cut the truck magnets ( or laminated print out) separating the cab and bed.
Pop a handful of magnets on a magnet board or cookie sheet.
Match them up!
Have younger children or want to use this in a preschool class? Match up letters instead!
Here is the free printable of the trucks –> click here to download.
Need some great construction themed books to extend this activity?
