It’s almost Fall, so it’s time to dive into apple-themed activities! Some educators in the early childhood space are vehemently against themed activities, but let me share why I love them. I love using flexible themes in my classrooms because they help support literacy development, allow children to dive deeper into topics, and helps to create a shared experience that builds class communities. I say flexible because I absolutely still use an emergent curriculum. As my students’ strengths, challenges, and interests within and outside of themes emerge, I incorporate them into my lessons. If you want to learn more about doing this, check out this article about emergent curriculum. We are exploring apples this week in PreK, and here are some of my favorite apple activities for PreK.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES PRESCHOOL LESSONS
My thematic units have been super helpful for me as I plan for my class because they have printable materials that are easy to use ( don’t worry, these aren’t worksheets). Activities are already written out to easily share with families if a child needs to stay home because of Covid exposure.

If you have decided to keep your preschooler home and need the SIMPLEST learning activities you can do without any special materials, check out my newest book, EVERYDAY PRESCHOOL. Hundreds of parents have already bought it, and the reviews are glowing. This book is perfect for you if you don’t know where to start and have no desire or time to teach your child all day.
