I love Christmas STEM! I do a lot of STEM in my classroom. Probably because teaching preschool teachers about STEM is one of my favorite things to do, if you aren’t sure where to start teaching STEM to preschoolers, read this, and if you want me to share it with your staff or group of early childhood educators in person, check out my speaking page here. The reality is that so much of what we do is setting the stage for our students to explore! I should also note that I teach at a church-affiliated school, so using Christmas as a theme is appropriate. Looking for some secular STEM ideas? Here is my vault FULL of preschool STEM ideas!
Here are a bunch of Christmas STEM activities, click on the links for more information about the preschool STEM activities!
Christmas Shape Activities for Preschool
Play with shapes in all different ways. These Christmas themed shape activities are some of the things we do in my preschool class with shapes around Christmas time. We made shape wreaths, triangle Christmas trees, explored with shape matching cards, gingerbread man shape matching at circle time, and directed drawings.
Christmas Magnet Science Activities for PreK
Explore with magnets! We have so much fun with jingle bells and magnet wands, we also added them to our sensory bins, make magnet discovery bottles and add jingle bells to your magnatiles!
Christmas Math Activities for Preschool
We do a lot of Christmas themed math in my class. Roll & Cover Santa, Christmas math measuring mats, count & clip cards, roll and cover gingerbread houses, and Christmas themed ten frame cards. My math center is so fun all month long!
Christmas Themed Engineering Activities For Preschool
Get building! Try making the North Pole with shaving cram and foam blocks, give your students a Lego challenge, and of course build some gingerbread houses!
Christmas Activities for Observation and Sorting ( Yes this is Science!)
Observation is a vital part of science, so work on this skill with some fun ideas. Make a Christmas tree discovery bottle, sort mini erasers ( add tweezers for a challenge), make duplicate Christmas trees on the light table, and match up colors on this color matching Christmas tree.
I hope these preschool STEM ideas carry you through the final days before the break!
