One of the best parts of spring in my preschool classroom is getting to watch caterpillars turn into butterflies. This is a wonderful way of working science into your classroom. Mainly, it engages children with something they can observe first hand. Our caterpillars arrived yesterday, so I’ll be taking them to my class Monday. If you want to get some, I highly suggest (affiliate link) this kit. I’ve used it multiple times and now just order the caterpillars every year.
Observing the life cycle is fantastic. In addition, I also love to include some hands-on creative activities. These butterfly crafts for preschool are great. Try them, whether or not you are watching caterpillars turn into butterflies. The hard part is deciding which butterfly craft is the right one for your students. I think we will be making the paper plate ones at free choice at the art table.
