This is an easy craft that uses materials you probably have on hand. This wreath craft will keep little hands busy while you are wrapping holiday gifts. If you teach at a childcare center you are probably working next week, this is a good holiday-themed craft that adds shine and sparkle to your room on those days when you wish you had a winter break. When I taught PreK in a childcare center I worked Christmas Eve and Boxing Day ( that’s what we Canadians call the day after Christmas), at first I was bummed that I was at work when I would normally have it off, but making holiday-themed crafts offered some solace. Of course, holiday-themed crafts aren’t the right choice for every school or classroom even on Christmas Eve. Developmentally appropriate practice requires that we know our students’ home culture and reflect it in our instructional choices. Always start with the students. How To Make A Mini Bow Wreath
Gather your materials. You will need some card stock, green crayons ( if the students ask for other colors, go for it!), mini gift bows, ribbon, glue, and scissors. Side note- I think I have 40 green crayons but all but one is broken… time for some recycled crayons I think!
Start by making a larger circle on the card stock. Unglazed paper plates would be great for this but all I had on hand was glazed so I opted for card stock instead.
Draw an interior circle and have the kiddos color the wreath. I don’t cut my wreaths out before gluing on the bows because they are much sturdier as a full sheet of card stock. If you are using paper plates, I’d cut the middle out before gluing.
Add glue.
Add the bows. You can work on patterns, color recognition, or my favorite just pop them on where ever while talking. I love how my students chat at the art table. I have a very social group of children this year and we love to talk at the table as a group. Art time goes on and on in my class, which is all directed by the kids!
Let dry.
Add a ribbon and cut out.
