If you have seen me speak about math at a workshop, you know that I have major math baggage. I was terrible at math growing up and was so nervous about having to learn how to teach math to 6th graders ( my first degree is K-6) that in my first university class about math methods, I burst into tears. What I needed was a good teacher and my professor was fantastic, and now I am passionate about teaching math. We know that when we talk about math, children learn more effectively. One way to do that is to bring math and math concepts into storytime. Here are some of my favorite math picture books that teach math in fun, engaging ways.
