Assessing preschoolers’ letter recognition can be a challenging task. Who likes to be tested? No preschooler I know! I like to use specific activities with my students that are fun but also allow me to assess where they are at and where I need to help them get to. These letter recognition activities for easy assessment are not only fun for children who are starting to explore or on the edge of mastering letter recognition, but they are also helpful for teachers seeking non-invasive and low-stress assessment tools.I like to introduce these to my students as fun, free-choice, or whole-group games long before I use them as assessment tools. Select the activities your students enjoy from this list, and remember that preschoolers require multiple opportunities to demonstrate their understanding and skills. One assessment is rarely representative of what an individual preschooler knows. Try to assess regularly, using multiple methods. 10 Awesome Letter Recognition Activities
These letter activities for preschoolers can be used in various settings, but if your goal is assessment, I recommend conducting them one-on-one at a teacher’s table. Invite one student over and play together. If it’s just for learning, these letter activities can be done in small or, in many cases, large groups.
