Whether you officially use learning centers in your preschool classroom with set areas all year long or are more flexible, centers offer children a few great things. The first thing preschool centers give preschoolers is a sense of predictability. We know from robust research that when children know what to expect, not only is learning more effective, but they also behave in more prosocial ways. The second thing that centers can help promote is friendship. Young children like to learn in social settings, so creating learning centers that promote that is a plus for development and your classroom community. The third is that it can help with planning, if you have a preschool center of math, science, fine motor, art, and literacy, you know you are creating a pretty balanced buffet of learning. Add in some gross motor work, a song circle, and some sensory play, and you have a pretty good start to a wonderful, balanced day of learning! Here are some of my favorite preschool center ideas you can find even more of my best preschool activities in my book Everyday Preschool In The Classroom. Preschool & PreK Math Center Ideas

Math is always a fun preschool center because, despite what many think, preschool math is so much more than just counting and number recognition! Here are some ideas for your math center:
Sorting is a math skill an when we use novel items like gems to sort it makes it more fun.
Graphing is important too!
Roll & cover games like these work on counting, one to one correspondence, and subitizing!
Understanding that as we count the amount increases is a prek skill, use unifix cubes to help teach that!
Exploring measurement at the math center is fun and important. We love measuring toys with unifix cubes.
Shapes are fun to learn, especially when it’s a game! Play these shape games together or independently. Grab this one or a space-themed one for free here.
Counting is important and this beading game matches counting with subitizing and fine motor work!
